A footballer named Misbau Afolabi, has been sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for robbery.

The convict, together with two others, attacked members of the Tabernacle of Hope Church International during an all-night service on 26th January 2013.

They allegedly made away with mobile phones, a laptop and an unspecified amount of money. The court found him guilty of robbery, but acquitted him on the charges of conspiracy to commit crime.

His two accomplices are currently at large. The suspects, wielding a locally manufactured gun and a pump action gun, ordered the worshipers to lie down .

A witness in the matter informed the head pastor and a report was made to the police. Afolabi was later spotted in town, on 28th March 2017, and another report was made to the police. He was arrested and sent to the Accra Regional Police but denied the offence in his caution statement. He was however convicted after the trial.
