Young Boys lost to CSKA Moscow at Home, Liverpool Edge Hoffenheim, See other UCL Play-Off Results

Russian club CSKA Moscow pipped Young Boys of Switzerland 1-0 away in the first leg of the 2017/2018 UEFA Champions League pplay-offs on Tuesday.

The winners over two legs of the play-offs will qualify for the group stages of this season’s UEFA Champions League.

The only goal of the game was scored in the 90th minute through an own goal by Young Boys’ Kasim Nuhu.

Nigerian export Aaron Samuel was brought on for Fedor Chalov in the 54th minute for his second Champions League appearance this season.

CSKA will entertain Young Boys in the reverse fixture on Wednesday, 23 August.

In Germany, Liverpool also recorded a vital 2-1 away victory against Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.

Liverpool’s 18-year-old right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold opened the scoring in the 35th minute.

In the 74th minute, an own goal from substitute Haavard Nordtveit made it 2-0 to Liverpool.

With three minutes left, Mark Uth scored for Hoffenheim to make it 2-1.

In other play-off results, Qarabag of Azerbaijan edged FC Copenhagen of Denmark 1-0, Apoel Nicosia of Cyprus beat visiting Slavia Prague of Czech Republic 2-0, and Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Romania’s FC FCSB.
